If Progesterone Is Responsible For Rise In Bbt, Does It Go Down Once Hcg Is Being Produced?
If so, how quickly does it go down? To what temperature?
Is This A Good Level For My Hcg And Progesterone?
I asked this question before, just wanted a little more info. My LMP was May 27th, and i am in the very early stages of my pregnancy. I took a HCG blood test on Friday and it was 15, then Monday it was 121, and today(Thursday) it was 486. My progesterone level is 32.10. Is that a good HCG level and progesterone level?
4 weeks and 6 days from last period HCG level is 335 and progesterone level is 36.?
The nurse did not ask me to come back to check for doubling. Just said everything is good. I am really worried because I just had a miscarriage 3 months ago and have fallen pregnant again with minimal fertility treatments. I am experience very light to no pregnancy symptoms. Do my numbers and symptoms sound normal?
Chemical Pregnancy – Causes, Symptoms
When implantation occurs, but the pregnancy fails to develop properly, it is called a chemical pregnancy. That’s because you were technically pregnant (you produced the chemical HCG), but a normal pregnancy did not result. You see it as a regular period, or a period that is a few days late.
A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman’s period was due but a miscarriage occurred before a heartbeat could be seen on an ultrasound.
With the ultra sensitive pregnancy tests on the market today, it is easier than ever to get a positive result 3 or 4 days before your period is due. It is wonderful for those who NEED to know, but does have it’s down side. Early testing shows chemical pregnancies that would not have been detected had the woman waited for her period to arrive.
Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant.
What causes a chemical pregnancy?
Low hormone levels: Women with lower level of hormones (Progesterone) or due to lack of hormones could find problems in continuing the pregnancy resulting in miscarriage.
Infections: Rubella, toxoplasmosis, Sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia, cytomegalo virus, genital herpes and syphilis can result in a chemical pregnancy. Maternal immune system diseases like lupus is another cause of miscarriage
Thyroid disorders: Thyroid disorders like hypothyroid can cause a chemical pregnancy. Hence a woman with hypothyroidism must check the thyroid hormone levels if planing for a pregnancy.
Luteal phase defects: Luteal phase is the phase between ovulation and periods. Usually the phase would be for 14 days, but varies from 11-17 days. If the phase lasts less than 10 days, it is called a luteal phase defect and thought to be a possible cause of miscarriage.
What are the signs and symptoms of chemical pregnancy?
It would be really difficult to detect the signs of chemical pregnancies as normal pregnancy symptoms occur around 6 weeks at the earliest. Fatigue and nausea are early symptoms but would be known to a woman who has been pregnant before. Symptoms like abdominal pain, blood clots in menses and prolonged or heavy menstruation suggest miscarriage.
Many women do not experience any signs or symptoms associated with this type of pregnancy loss. However, in some cases of chemical pregnancy, miscarriage symptoms can include the following:
* Tender breasts
* Morning sickness
* Nausea
* Fatigue

Guide to the first stages of pregnancy – Part 2

- Image via Wikipedia
Pregnancy is a special time in a woman’s life, but it also brings a whole host of ailments, emotions and worries to contend with. The early weeks are perhaps the most challenging, below is a guide to the first stages of pregnancy.
Common early pregnancy symptoms
- Menstrual period is late or missed – if you are more than a week or two late on your menstrual period, then this is a strong indicator of pregnancy
- Feeling nauseous/vomiting – also known as morning sickness, the increase of hormones in your body, in particular progesterone, makes you feel this way
- More frequent urination – also caused by an increase in hormones
- Tiredness – your body is using all its energy to make a baby!
- Tender breasts/nipples – once again the surge of hormones.
Pregnancy tests
There are many reliable pregnancy test kits available from most pharmacies/drugstores. These tests detect the pregnancy hormone hCG in your urine, and is carried out by urinating on a stick on the test kit; after a minute or two, the result will show up as ‘positive’ or ‘negative’ in the form of line/s (depending on the brand); some digital kits actually state ‘pregnant’ or ‘not pregnant’.
Below are some tips for optimum use:
- Not too early – make sure that you wait until after your menstrual period would have been due to conduct the test, some tests do not work earlier than this
- Test in the morning – it is best to use early-morning urine as hCG hormone levels are higher at this time
- Don’t drink too many fluids – this can increase the volume of urine and dilute the pregnancy hormone
- Always read the instructions carefully.
Early pregnancy: what to expect
During early pregnancy, a miracle occurs: your body develops a fertilized egg into a human baby at a phenomenal rate so, as well as the symptoms listed previously, it is normal to feel more emotional and exhausted – take this time to relax and let the surging hormones do their work! Not only this but it will take some time to adjust to the idea of becoming a parent and all the responsibilities that go with it.
Once you have confirmed your pregnancy, it is a good idea to make an appointment to see your doctor; you can discuss your estimated due date and arrange appointments with the health professionals you will need to see throughout your pregnancy. Your doctor will also organize an appointment for your first dating scan, which is usually at around 12-14 weeks of pregnancy. Pregnancy is split into three trimesters
