Can Hcg Rise In A Ectopic Or Failing Pregnancy?

February 8, 2010 · Posted in HCG

My HCG at 4.5wks was 5,822
I gave new blood work yesterday (5wks 6days) if it goes up, can i still expect a failing pregnancy? or ectopic?
(No bleeding, no pains)
Gest sac was irregular shaped and empty at 5wks so doc is asking me to b rdy for anything.

Since you already saw the babies gestational sac & it is in utero(your doctor would have told you if it wasn’t), then it cannot be ectopic. If your HCG still continues to rise, the baby is still alive. Since you haven’t had any bleeding or pain, that is a HUGE plus. My son’s sac was irregular shaped & he made it to 25 weeks(he was born prematurely due to other complications). At 5 weeks it can be very hard to see a baby that small, so don’t worry yourself too much. Your baby sounds to me like he/she is doing good!
