Is There Anything Other Than Pregnancy That Can Cause Hcg To Show Up In A Urine Test?

February 5, 2010 · Posted in HCG

I have a blood test scheduled for Tuesday, but I don’t want to get my hopes up…six home pregnancy tests can’t be wrong, can they? I would only be about 2 weeks pregnant…4 if you count from the date of my last period. I have yet to miss a period but have taken the six tests periodically since last Thursday.

Yes, there are other things that can make hCG show up on a urine test. My sister would routinely miss her period then take pregnancy test after pregnancy test that showed up positive. Then she would get her period. This happened over 6 months finally her period never came again so we went to the doctor to get ultrasound and there was no baby, it was a softball sized cancer mass. She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and 23!! She had to have a complete hysterectomy and chemo. Young women aren’t educated on Germ Cell Ovarian Cancer that can affect women usually between the ages of 2-25. Germ Cell Ovarian Cancer is not the cancer that women get when they are older. One starts in the ovary and one starts on the outside of the ovary.
Hopefully, this is not your case but we need to educate ourselves!!

No there is no way to get HCG in your urine unless you are taking some kind of medication that has HCG in it. I would say congratulations on your pregnancy. I took 5 test before i missed my period and they all were positive, i am going on 6 weeks

Fertility meds are about the only thing that can give you a false positive. Good luck!

Unless you were using some kind fertility treatment that contained the HCG hormone then no… there’s nothing else (except recent miscarriage, but that only means the hormone isn’t out of your system yet) that can cause the hormone to show up in your urine.
Six tests are pretty conclusive. Congrats mommy!!!
Oh btw, I did my test when I was just about 2/3 weeks pregnant too! Less than 4 weeks from last period, and it came back positive – I had it confirmed with a blood test the very next day :) .

    -Fertility medications that contain hCG
-A recent delivery or miscarriage. After a full term birth it can take up to 6 weeks for after, after an extremely early miscarriage the hormones probably drop within days.
-Post-menopausal women may always show positive on an extremely sensitive test
    -Some cancers
    -Certain ovarian cysts (not PCOS)http://www.peeonastick.com/falsepos.html
