When Is The Earliest A Beta Hcg Test Will Be Accurate?

February 8, 2010 · Posted in HCG · 1 Comment

When is the earliest a BETA (quantitative) Hcg test be accurate? I assumed I had Od on cd 20 and had a test done at 15dpo it was negative. However, after seeing my Dr. He thinks I may have Od as late as CD 27 so I could be as early as 8dpo. Could the BETA have been taken too early and given inaccurate results at 8dpo??

Is It Normal For My Hcg Levels To Be 690.5 And My Ultrasound To Only Show A Sac?

February 7, 2010 · Posted in HCG · 4 Comments

I recently had a positive pregnancy test and because I had a recent cyst and some abdominal pain the nurse scheduled me for an ultrasound. The cyst was gone, but I should have been 7 1/2 weeks and the ultrasound only showed a sac instead of a fetus with a heartbeat. They sent me for bloodwork and my HcG was 690.5. I haven’t gotten the results back from the 48 hr repeat, but I was informed by a nurse that if the hormones don’t at least double I will probably loose the baby and should consider terminating it now, which is not an option for me. When should I start to worry?

Is There Anything Other Than Pregnancy That Can Cause Hcg To Show Up In A Urine Test?

February 5, 2010 · Posted in HCG · 8 Comments

I have a blood test scheduled for Tuesday, but I don’t want to get my hopes up…six home pregnancy tests can’t be wrong, can they? I would only be about 2 weeks pregnant…4 if you count from the date of my last period. I have yet to miss a period but have taken the six tests periodically since last Thursday.

The Complexity Of Female Hormones

February 5, 2010 · Posted in HCG · Comment

If you are born female, you will undoubtedly at one time or another be accused of being “hormonal.” Female hormones are blamed for everything from irritability to depression, and while they are certainly prevalent in our lives they hardly control it. Just as in males, female hormones are present from birth. But it is during puberty that the female hormones make their presence known – in a big way!

The two major female hormones – estrogen and progesterone – conduct the symphony of the processes exclusive to the female body. With the onset of puberty during adolescence, the ovaries begin to release eggs during monthly menstruation; they also begin to release estrogen and subsequent changes begin to occur in the female body including the development of breasts and hair growth. The interplay of estrogen and progesterone will continue to regulate the menstrual cycle of the female body all during the reproductive years.

Later, when a woman becomes pregnant, the female hormones support the pregnancy by shifting accordingly. The ovaries are alerted to a pregnancy by the detection of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin), a new hormone released only during pregnancy – and the hormone that is detected by home pregnancy tests. Subsequently, the ovaries begin to produce higher levels of estrogen and progesterone and continue to produce these levels until the placenta is able to produce its own hormones to support the pregnancy – usually around the fourth month of pregnancy.

In a well-timed choreography that the female body has been doing since the beginning of time, female hormones shift again after childbirth. The result is the return of the womb to its non-pregnant state, as well as the return to normal of the various body functions that had changed to support pregnancy. Instead, female hormones now allow the production of breast milk with which to feed our newborn.

This delicate dance of female hormones continues until menopause – generally reached anywhere from a woman’s mid-forties to mid-fifties. During menopause the ovaries stop producing eggs for reproduction and stop producing estrogen – all resulting in the permanent cessation of the menstrual cycle.

Female hormones are amazing – orchestrating the unique abilities of a woman’s body throughout her lifetime.

Do High Hcg Levels Always Mean You Are Pregnant?

February 5, 2010 · Posted in HCG · 5 Comments

One of my friends keeps getting her hopes up when her doctors say a high HCG level, but she’s had 4 “miscarriages” in the past year. A doctor will say she’s pregnant without knowing her history and then she’ll get her period and the doctor will say “Oh, sorry, you lost the baby/babies”.
What is going on?
I looked this up a little already, and there are a few illnesses that can also go hand-in-hand with a high HCG level.
